In this week we were introduced to a software known as INDESIGN which is a desktop publisher used for multi page , text heavy piece . We began by comparing the three softwares- adobe illustrator , Photoshop .
Photoshop is a raster image editor that can be used for multiple things such as editing images, cropping pictures ,animations etc.
illustrator is a vector grapics editor used for creating logos, brand labels , layouts etc
After this we began with indesign where we started with creating an A3 page and the measurement was converted into millimeters , we also learnt the options which helps us create columns size which is referred as gutter . We also learnt how to increase the size of the margins , bleed and slug . Bleed occurs when the elements of the page , leaving no margin . We chose our workplace as typography .
Then we began learning the basics that is learning about the master’s how they are created and what are they used for . Master pages are pages that contain the same details such as the text, page no. , name of the book or the magazine . One can create several master for several pages and assign the masters accordingly .
After learning the master page concept then learnt how to apply them and learnt a few other things such as clip mask , how to handle the texts in between columns and many tools frame tool , rectangular tool etc .
At the end I would like to mention that i learnt the basics of indesign and found them a bit tough in the start but easier than the other two software’s which we had learnt before . I also learnt the different types of tools which will help me to create layouts and other documents .
