OBJECTS AS HISTORY ( WEEK 1 )

This week we discussed about the meaning of history through the study of objects . An object can be something that be made up of any material and can be used for anything . Then we discussed about the difference between object and an artifact . Artifact is an object which as an historical value and has been stored for many years which are studied by archaeologists at a particular period of time . So the main difference between them is that one has a purpose but the another one does not . Artifact is more helpful for studying purpose.

Then we discussed about the three different ages of history such as PALEOLITHIC , NEOLITHIC AND CHARCOLITHIC . We only discussed about paleolithic period in this class . We discussed the main elements which contribute to the paleolithic period which are the tools they use , the invention of fire ,products made using animal remains such as fur ,bones and most important cave painting. We also looked for the real meaning of cave painting which is it is is used for communication , cavemen moving from one place to another because of their natural resources getting over. The cave painting were an important source of communicating with other people who were going next .

We then discussed about this places named JERICHO, a place between Israel and Syria it started as a temporary place , where archaeologists found 20 layers of cities beneath Jericho . We also spoke about how people use to bury the dead bodies under their own homes , it was because people believed in life after death saying, the bodies were buried with their precious valuables such as jewelry.

Overall, i learnt about the different kinds of periods and what all elements come under the paleolithic period and about the place Jericho and how the bodies are buried .
